What is Laguna Dudu?

Laguna Dudu is a natural cenote system in the hills just south of Cabrera, on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic. It consists of two freshwater lagoons connected by an underground tunnel. The main lagoon is 32 meters deep with crystal-clear turquoise water.

What makes it special: a 10-meter cliff jumping platform, a zipline over the water, underwater caves, and pre-Columbian Taino cave art on the walls. It is one of the only places in the world where divers can swim between two natural lakes underground.

What to do at Laguna Dudu

  • Cliff jumping: The main platform is about 10 meters high. Not for the faint-hearted, but the water below is deep and clear.
  • Zipline: A cable stretches across the lagoon. You drop into the water at the end. Great alternative if the cliff feels too high.
  • Swimming: The turquoise water is warm year-round (25-28C). Bring water shoes for the rocky edges.
  • Cave exploration: Walk into the caves to see ancient Taino petroglyphs carved into the rock walls.
  • Diving: Experienced divers can explore the underwater tunnel connecting both lagoons (bring your own gear or arrange with a local operator).

How to get there

The easiest option is a guided tour from Puerto Plata or Cabarete ($85-120 per person, includes transport, guide, and usually lunch plus a beach stop at Playa Grande). If you prefer to go independently, rent a car and drive to Cabrera. The cenote is signposted from the main road. Mototaxis from Cabrera town center cost about $2-3 USD.

Tips for visiting
